NYC has no school tax. School taxes in NY State are traditionally tied to real estate taxes and are assessed locally. However, NYC has very low real estate taxes and has a local income tax instead. It then takes the income tax (and the real estate taxes) and make it all a part of the City budget. It then funds the school system directly out of the City budget. This is different from most local school districts in NY State, in which funding from real estate taxes is earmarked for the schools. I think the NYC system is much fairer, because it does not penalize people when the value of their home goes up. It also does not penalize elderly people on a fixed income for the increase in their home value, nor does it pit the eldery (who do not have kids in school anymore) against families with children. This kind of thing DOES happen in the rest of NY State, BTW.

Which school is better, New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts or the New York Film Academy?
Which school is better, New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts or the New York Film Academy?
I have both schools throwing scholarship money at me to attend their school over the other. I am receiving much more money from the New York Film Academy but I want to be positive about my choice. I visited both schools and toured them both thoroughly from the classes to the dorms. I just want to know which school is better for me in the long run. They both have quite a long list of big name people who came out of their schools but again, I just want to be sure.

NYFA SUCKS for acting. They're a film school NOT an acting school. NYCDA is MUCH better. My beef is with year+ conservatories and BFA/MFA programs is this. I believe in being more diverse in my training. The year+ programs can sometimes be like factories where they churn out actors who are taught pretty much the same thing through a structured curriculum. What might work for one person, will NOT work for a different person. Also, a lot of the conservatories and BFA/MFA programs have strict policies such as NOT being able to audition outside of their school or study at other places simultaneously. I think this is limiting to the actor. The actor should have the freedom to audition for outside projects and add to the current curriculum. Not really. Look into the CUNYs.

for urban studies, it's a fine school. for things like fashion and more artsy things, it's also good. for regular majors, i'd just go somewhere else.

I do not live in New York, I live in Arkansas. So, the answer I give you is based upon the Dept. of Education here. But, I am hoping state departments of educ. are similar since they are all federally funded. In Arkansas, the state dept. has its own website (you can google yours at new york dept. of education and find it easily). Through your state dept., you should be able to find home schooling requirements (the home school students will have to be tested every year just like the students in a public school, the scores will have to be reported to the state dept. due to NCLB laws). I know here in AR, when a parent wants to pull a student out for home schooling, the school district provides the paperwork (or, can be down loaded from the State Dept. website) for the parent to fill out to be sent to the State Dept. At that time, I also would have my counselor (I was the principal) "counsel" the parent about the needs of the student and the reponsibilities of the parent as far as reporting scores, taking state mandated tests (as per the No Child Left Behind act). and so on. After researching the requirements on the N.Y. State Dept. website, there MAY be a list of internet providers that you can contact ... or, at least there will be a phone number at the state dept. that you can call and talk to a live person to answer your questions. Browse through the list of the separate departments within the New York Dept. of Ed. and see which dept. is best suited to your needs. You can also try calling the principal of superintendent of your local school district for many answers to your questions. If that doesn't work for you, you can always try googling "virtual high school, new york" and see the different sites that are available for you to check out and see what fits your particular situation. Hope this helps.

Search for a university and see what their international students requirements are. Then u have to apply for a letter of acceptance. It will cost anywhere from 25 to 30 thousand bucks a year for international students. Good luck.

I varies from school to school. Ask the teacher who teaches the class.
2
Umm, truthfully you only really need to be familiar with triangles and the trigonometric functions. What you really need is Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. Pre-Calc focuses on those two.
3
You need to know your algebra really well. To take precalc. You will definitely need algebra 2. After you take geometry, if you haven't taken algebra 2, then you will find precalc. somewhat challenging.

hey, I also went to school in NY (graduated High School 2 yrs ago). For some reason i never took Geometry. I took Algebra, trigonometry (math B), pre calc, and than AP Calculus. If geometry is part of trigonometry than i guest i took geometry, but I'm not sure. lol. The requirements, i think, is to pass Math A (algebra), than Math B (Trig) and then you could take pre calc senior or junior year.

You are going to need all of Geometry in Trig. precal and Calculus as well. A good foundation in Geometry will help you in all following subjects.
2
After finishing Geometry, you'll need Algebra, Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. You've probably already taken Algebra, since you're in geometry. Some schools offer a combined class of Algebra 2/Trig, which suffices. If you have a flair for math, you may be able to take just Algebra 2. I took Algebra 2/trig, and have found precalc to be simply a regurgitation of that class. Good luck!

What is the law on passing a school bus in new york state?
I was driving home when i saw a school bus ahead but not too far away.As i got closer the driver put on the yellow flashing lights but he kept on coming closer.I started to slow down but i couldn't stop in time before i got to about 15-20 feet from the bus so i didn't want to stop right next to the bus which i knew was illegal so i sped up a tiny bit to pass the bus before he came to a full stop and the sign came out. I'm pretty sure that he didn't turn on his red lights before I got next to him but as i was passing, the driver blew his horn at me for a whole second and now Im afraid that he is going to report my plate and I'll get a fine or worse, points on my liscense and insurance rate increases.I know for a fact the bus wasn't completely stopped and the stop sign wasn't out but im not sure whether the lights turned red or not cus i was kinda panicking that I was getting too close to the bus. Are bus drivers in New York allowed to report my plate? How long before i recieve a ticket? there were no kids crossing because the bus wasn't even stopped yet and the bus was goin pretty fast for having his yellow lights on oh ya and im 17 and i regret doing what i did and ill never do it again but its done so right now i just really wanna know how long before i can rest assured that nobody is comin to my door or that nothin is comin in the mail THX ALOT FOR ANSWERS

It is illegal when the lights are flashing, and you are liable to a hefty fine if you do.
2
I know you stop when the reds are flashing and the stop sign is out. don't be fooled by the wholesome bus driver image- i see plenty of school bus drivers driving carelessly everyday- its a shame-
3
Hi There , I don't know about new york , BUT in Canada , they will fine you big time if you do not stop and wait all day for a school bus.
4
i doubt he even saw your plate....but next time don't speed up. at least make an effort to stop/slow down...when you speed up and blow past the bus is what pisses the drivers off and could cause a kid to get hit. if you had stopped and been too close to the bus, the driver would have likely waved you to go before he let the kids out.
5
Once the yellow lights came on, you had no right to pass the bus.
6
I hope so! You could have stopped but didn't...do you realize the danger you put yourself and other people in when you made the decision to pass that bus?
7
Yes the bus driver can report the plate. And you cant pass a bus when its lights are on becuase that means that they are giving you a sign to slow down because he is picking up a kid,, he was prob blowing the horn becuase you passed him and maybe a kid was crossing the road.. But i wouldnt worry about it i think the cops would be looking for you already.
8
What you should have done is completed your stop as soon as you could. It is not illegal to ''stop right next to the bus''. Chances are the bus driver won't report you and merely intended for you to rethink your actions, as you have done. You are conscientious and that will make you an ''above average'' driver someday. Relax and file this one under ''lesson learned''.

First, I don't know why you think 3 B's and the rest A's are bad grades...that has to work out to 3.1 - 3.6, depending on how many A's you have. That is respectable. Information below can help you understand transfer and admission requirements to get into the Manhattan Beach Unified School District.

You can't. You cannot afford to pay rent and feed yourself in NYC. A volunteer pays all their own expenses. A nonprofit is forbidden by the IRS rules from using donations for anything other then their mission statement.
2
You are still saying you want to volunteer, volunteer is NOT a paid vacation in some exciting, fun city. Of course, it could happen, volunteers are needed everywhere. Stop wasting your time, and ours in this forum, and start searching websites, and actually APPLY. If you want to go to some exciting city like in your other post, Seattle, get a job, save your money, and party. You have to pay your own way. If you really want to volunteer, you can do it in your home town, volunteers are needed where you live. 1. Join Peace Corps 2. crossculturalsolutions.org

What New York schools can I go to for Computer Animation?
What New York schools can I go to for Computer Animation?
I'd like to do computer animation so I can be a Pixar animator but I have to stay in New York. My first choice is the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan but I just want to have a back up or 2 in case I don't get in. Any ideas?

Good choice, I'm a Film major at SVA and it is an excellent school! For a second choice though, check out Pratt or NYU's Tish school of the arts, they both are very good schools in Manhattan that offer 3D animation as well. Tish can be very hard to get into though, but it's worth the shot, Good luck!

Is using student MetroCard legal on non-school days at New York City?
I use my Student MetroCard on non-school days. For example: in spring vacation. But I don't know whether it is legal or illegal in New York City.

It's probably not recommended, but if it was illegal, your card wouldn't be applicable in their system. If they don't have student cards deactivated during non-school day's, it's their loss. They can't take the card from you, because you'd have no way of getting to school. It'd be their loss. They probably figure most people won't overuse it, since they aren't supposed to. Or they may be looking to cut kid's a break. There's a lot of ''gray territory'' laws that exist out there that never are applied. My dad's a retired cop, but still shows his shield to the people who work in the stations and they always let him through. I read one time that you could get a $25 fine for spitting on the ground, but how many cop's actually enforce that?

yes

Student MetroCards - The holidays and vacation usage ban is not enforced electronically by the fare collection system, but sporadically enforced by the Transit Police and very rarely MTA employees (when used at a subway turnstile, an indicator lights up). Rides do not roll over. Some schools that have activities on Sundays or late at night have cards valid until 10:30 pm and on Sundays. Some schools and youth agencies will give out one time use cards that have a 1-4 rides on them for special events like field trips and extraordinary trips like to an afterschool program or social programs or parole officer meetings, these card can not be refilled and will not get recharged after their rides are up and are effectively disposable. Students that attend special night school who live far from thei

I have one, and i use it anyway. If they stop you just say you go to catholic or a private school. I use it whenever i get the chance...

Technicly, but what are they gonna do?

How can my son attend a New York City public elementary school outside of his district?
How can my son attend a New York City public elementary school outside of his district?
My son and I have recently moved to Manhattan, New York from rural Missouri and I want to enroll him in a public elementary school. We live in Harlem and unfortunately schools in the area lack cultural diversity with the entire student body consisting of African Americans. I want my son to be exposed to many not just one group of people. Is there a way that I can register my son in another school outside my district? Are there any legal precedents or can I register my son in the school district where I work?

My child is already enrolled in a New York City public school and I have enrollment questions. Where do I go? If your child is currently enrolled in a New York City public elementary or middle school, please visit your child̢۪s current school. If your child is currently enrolled in or assigned to a New York City public high school, please go to your high school beginning September 5th to obtain information and assistance from your child̢۪s guidance counselor.

Hi there, Why not check out the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at CCNY? From my understanding, it is a innovative 5 year BS-MD program which integrates undergraduate education with the first couple years of med school. You basically start at CCNY, but end up finishing your last two years with various medical schools associated with CCNY. Check out the website: http://www1.ccny.cuny.edu/prospective/med/ If interested, give it shot! -Suburban Dana

Depends what kind of job you want. You don't say what you study. It's very hard here at the moment.

Yes, I think anything in NY is good and prestigious and looked at quite nicely.
2
NYU is a great school. Check out their website and CollegeBoard. They have an excellent communications department (and Tisch Film School, if you decide to go that path).
3
NYU is a good school, very well ranked and well known as well. It's very big, and it doesn't really have a campus. It is also notoriously stingy with financial aid. Other schools in NYC that are good for journalism include: Columbia Barnard College (this is an all-girls' college, but you can take classes at Columbia, and graduate with a Columbia degree, and it is much easier to get into than Columbia) Fordham Hofstra (this is just outside of NYC, but pretty good in journalism) Marymount Manhattan College (communications/journalism is very popular there) Also, if you're willing to go upstate, then Syracuse is very well known for journalism, and is still only a couple of hours away from New York City.
4
nyu is a good school, but i personally think it's overrated. it's also extremely expensive and known for giving horrid financial aid. columbia, barnard, fordham, ithaca college, and syracuse university are also in new york state with strong journalism programs. a newer one is suny stony brook, but if you're out of state it's a public school that's not particularly well regarded or well known out of ny.

2
Depending on the school. I go to the Culinary Institute of America and they serve gourmet food to the student. Today for lunch they bbq ed A whole pig for about 14 hours and served that. it was amazing.
3
Well a couple of years ago my school took away our salad bar and water so all we were left with was basically crap. Sooo My friend and I decided to petition to get it back and we did =) You could always try that. Its not necessarily the state. It's more the school. Much Love. Emilie <3 Oh yeah, I live in Florida =D
4
Yeah they do have bad food. Get your parents to petition to get better food, contact the PTO, and get the kids to all sign a petition, but be specific as to what you want, don't just say something like "get better food." The chicken patties always have bone chips in them. It's gross, and the hamburgers are rubber. The salad boxes are gone before anything else and even THEY don't taste good. Why can't you pack lunch? That's the best, even if you had to PB&J it with an apple or something, from your own house. Better than taking a chance on biting into something uncooked or alive. That is gross and not funny. Unfortunately, I agree though, I've seen it. Do all of what I said above and you can get things changed there. (be ware though: no matter how good the food is, you also have to worry about the people they hire to cook and serve it. Enough said.)

The New School is actually a bunch of schools bundled together. And without knowing what your area of interest is, it's hard to say. But I can tell you Parsons, Eugene Lang and The Drama School are more picky than the Ivies, in terms of what they look for in an ideal candidate. Overall, The New School is a highly competitive and highly desirable college. Which means they are in a position to be incredibly selective. The New School for General Studies The New School for Social Research Parsons The New School for Design Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts Mannes College The New School for Music The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music The New School for Drama

Check your city and county websites for available funding. You will probably need to get a fiscal sponsor (a 501(c)3 organization) that will administer the grant money since you are not a nonprofit. You can also search for available grants at our website (free!) under "Youth Development" in New York. The database lists grants for nonprofit organizations, but maybe you'll get some ideas for what is out there. http://www.grantgopher.com

Does New York University School of Medicine accept Transfers or Advanced Standing in to their 3rd year classes?
Although a 3rd year slot would be the best match, I would not object to a 2nd year slot. Some schools have transfer applications on the web, however I have found no such forms on the NYU SOM website. Other schools require a letter of intent before they provide application materials. I have found no information on their transfer policies nor how to best initiate contact.

Not every med school accepts transfer students. What I'd have you do re: NYU is contact them directly. Call their admissions department. You are going to a US med school, correct? Because no US med school accepts transfers from foreign med schools.

all of them wear abercrombie and fitch, hollister, and american eagle. In manhattan, thats where i go to school, they shop at sak's fifth avenue, anthropologie, barneys, and especially bloomingdales. they like to call it bloomies and they love it. But all the clothes in these stores are more than a $100 for a shirt. Otherwise just buy abercrombie, hollister, and american eagle which are all cheap brands. everyone wheres it. These three cheaper brands are best suited for public schools, but work anywhere. The other, more expensive stores should only be for those in manhattan and those who go to private schools there since they are filled with rich kids. the average private school in manhattan is $30,000 a year and up so its hard to blend in with their expensive clothes. I go to one on a scholarship though so I'm able to buy expensive clothes. Don't worry about what you wear, you are in middle school. Start caring in high school. Some people in middle school are still shopping at limited too. Plus you grow out of your clothes fast. Save your money for the more designer ones everyone will have in high school. Im 17 and lived here my whole life by the way.

Well, I live in New York and I'm in middle school. Everyone sort of have their own style, so I think you will be just fine.

College algebra and trig. You can take them both in 1 class.

hey, I also went to school in NY (graduated High School 2 yrs ago).

The days of the apprentice is back. WAY back in the day people learned to work on cars working under an experienced tech. For a long time the practice was mostly non existent. Now the industry has gotten back in to the apprentice practice because it really is the best way to learn how to work with cars. I was kicked out of 2 schools and now I am the top dog schooling the guys who went to a fancy school...

First off, I wish I could change your mind on going to school to learn this trade. As a 17 yr. auto body tech I can say that this profession has gone way downhill. I don't know another auto body tech that isn't looking for another profession. I still make the same annual salary that I made 13 yrs ago because insurance companies regulate our pay. And unfortunately it doesn't look like it will ever change. If you really want to learn how to do this, I wouldn't waste you money on an auto body school. Most employers will hire on experience anyway, which you won't have. My advice is to just apply at a local shop and see if they need any kind of entry level help. Detailer, gopher, cleanup etc.. and before you know it they will be asking to help tape cars prime stuff etc... and before you know it you'll be a full fledged auto body tech, broke from the amount of tools you will have to buy to do this job, and still making no money! auto body rate 1990-$34 pr. hr. 2008-$49pr. hr. Mechanics rate 1990-$35 2008-$75-$200 Hope this enlightens you on your career choice.

What's a basic estimate price of going to school in New York?
I'm still VERY young, but i really want to move to New York to pursue my dreams as a Business owner in the fashion industry. I just wanted to know a basic estimate of how much it would cost to move to NY and go to school. thanks, Derek Sabado

Well, there are a lot of factors here so no one can give a true estimate since you didn't give any details to your situation. However, let's say you are accepted into a school of design such as FIT or Parsons. For the 2009-2010 school year it is averaging between $17,000 to $18,000 per term. That's just tuition. If you select a dormitory for your residence add on another $12,000 to $15,000 per year. Here's the link for Parsons: http://www.newschool.edu/tuition/09/ So you are easily looking at $120,000 bare minimum.

Because the NYC school system has 1,000,000 students and about 200,000 employees?
2
Because the United Nations has realized that the U.S. only signed a contract to pay dues and never actually intended to pay. If we would honor the things we sign as a country (and let me tell you, I'll be screwed if I don't make my house payment) the UN's budget would be a bit bigger and more reliable. If the U.S. didn't want to join, we didn't have to. But in joining the UN, we entered into a contract that, for any ordinary person, would be unavoidable....SO PAY UP!

Thats a good idea....I live in LA and I think UCLA School of LAW and Loyola Marymount School of Law are both good law schools with good rankings.... Whats nice is that LA isn't way to different from NY and you will find it easy to adjust. These two schools are very competitive but are surrounded by good areas. Westwood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica are a few miles away so besides hw and reading, there are a lot of fun places you can go to take your mind off studying....Goodluck.
2
Okay, first of all WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE NY FOR MN?? I live in Minnesota and would love love love to live in NYC. anyways. Are you looking at the University of Minnesota? The U of M is good, but being a non resident you'll be paying about $30-35k tuition for a public school (although I suppose once you're a lawyer, you'll make enough money that won't really matter). For around the same price, however, you can attend one of the private law schools in the Twin Cities, such as St. Thomas or Hamline.

What kinds of shoes do high school students in New York wear in the snow?
I live in Oklahoma but was wondering what type of shoes teenagers in high school wear in the snow in New York? I am visiting there this christmas and wanted to know what the norm was? But not the dorky kids;) The well dressed kids :-D I was curious what they wear when it is actually snowing and they would have to walk through snow. I for one am not going to wear my uggs and ruin them! I thought maybe rain boots to keep your feet dry and they can be so much cuter than snow boots.

New York Law School is not a good law school at all in terms of prestige Excluding the ones you mentioned, the only somewhat decent law schools left in NYC are Brooklyn Law School and Hofstra Law School (not quite in Manhattan--but nearby in L.I.) Any other school isn't really any good.
I'm trying to choose which law schools to apply to, and New York City is a location I will be choosing schools from. What is your opinion on New York Law School (not to be confused with NYU)? If you have opinions on any of the other law schools in NYC, excluding NYU, Cornell, Columbia and Fordham, please share!

yes. although Dalton is open to all boys and girls who are academically gifted enough to get in, it does have many kids from rich families and from parents who are celebrities. if you do a google search on dalton, you'll find names of famous people you will know who went there as kids. an old friend of mine is a teacher at Dalton, 4th Grade i think. and she says that her kids never fail to impress her as to the kinds of imaginations they have. just to give you a sample of the high social status of some of the kids, when she gave them an assignment to draw pictures and report on what they did on a weekend, some of them drew helicopters and limousines taking their families out to their summer houses in The Hamptons. and maybe about 5 years ago my teacher friend had a girl in her class whose dad was a pitcher for the New York Yankees...

The easiest way to find out info is to find a student. You can start looking for contact information for Maryland universities here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/Maryland-Colleges-Universities.html The students always seem to know what's up since they spend so much time on campus.

In NYS, you need to get a BS in education. You will need to get your masters in education as well. You need to pass a series of exams. 6 years total generally. Here is the NYS website on certification http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/certprocess.htm New york certification is one of the hardest to get. Once you get certified in NY, you can teach anywhere. Teachers get recruited from NY all of the time. I live in upstate new york. The SUNY system is wonderful. Great education, lower tuition. Buffalo state, fredonia and Geneseo are great choices http://www.suny.edu/Student/campuses_complete_list.cfm You may want to consider a combo of special ed and el ed.

Stay in the EU, it's hard enough for teachers in the States to get jobs!!!!!
3
Columbia University is excellent. You will need a BA ad if you teach at at secondary school you will need a prescribed number of credits in various groupings. If you teach in elementary school you will need a number of elementary education classes. For secondary schools you will also need various education classes. Passing of the Praxis examination is necessary for both. You may also need a number of graduate credits./.

Hi I'm from the UK and at the moment i'm applying for drama school i'm guessing if your in 8th grade your around 13-14ish if i'm right?. Ok what I would suggest is that before you get swept up in the glamourous side of the Acting world you need to think long and hard. This industry is hard, brutual and extremely tiring so you need to know that you have the dedication and passion for it. You're in credibly young still so if your planning on being the best and REALLY want it then try and use these as a kind of helper 1.) Practice, Study, Practice...Seriously keep studying and practicing your craft. I'm not saying do it until you feel like your head might explode but if your planning to be the best it's essential. 2.) Read as many plays as possible, if you are cash strapped like moi then charity shops are like the Holy Grail and you can pick up some obscure plays and odnate to a good cause 3.) Go and see as many plays as possible in the uk we have a scheme called A Night Less Ordinary which gives free tickets to 16-26 years olds so call up your local theatres and see what their saying. Even if it's a school production your still keeping your mind active. 4.) Read and research as many playwrights as possible whether it be Shakespeare, Tom Stoppard, David Mamet, Shelagh Stephenson...Wikipedia is a godsend aswell. 5.) Find out the names of your local theatres and see if they have a youth group. Now in NYC i know they have the AADA but that is pretty much for 18+ I know they have Summer Programmes but these are expensive but if you can put pen to paper and write to as many charities as possible if you got a place cool. Also try and get "life experience" very rarely will you meet a young actress who can draw out tremendous emotions without getting some life experience. It's not to sound mean but alot of drama schools in the UK reject young applicants because they don't have enough experience so tahts why i'm just giving some hnts so when you hit 18 you have all these things under your belt. I hope this helps and good luck, stay positive and determined! =)

2
definitely base your/your childs educational career on a uniform, clearly youre mature enough to make such a decision
3
I wore a uniform just like that from pre-k to 12th grade, and am perfectly "normal" and not into the snobbish life, so don't listen to everybody that immediately jumps to the conclusion that just because you wore a "preppy" uniform, you are a snob today. Talk about being judgmental. And I could recommend you to the Convent of the Sacred Heart on 1 East 91st street, but I'm not sure if I could recommend you it in terms of educational value. I went to a sister school, and had to wear your quintessential school girl outfit.

What is a good fashion school in New York?
I want desperately to go to school for fashion design, and I'd love to go to school in New York (I know, I know, how unique). Only problem is, all of the major schools like FIT and Parsons seem to get pretty iffy reviews. And I don't want to spend 40,000 bucks a year on an questionable education. So, what are some good schools to go to for fashion design in your experience? It doesn't just have to be in New York, I'm open to pretty much any place on the East Coast.

"I want desperately to go to school for fashion design" Do you desperately want to be unemployed? ALL Fashion School lead to unemployment, perhaps preceded by short periods of low-pay, high-pressure, dead-end internships. Find something serious to study. Incidentally, who is paying for these fashion fantasies? Your parents?

Whats is a GREAT art school in New York for photography, film, and fashion?
Im moving back to New York next year around this time, and I really need to find a college to go to. Im already taking some classes up at Valley College here in California, but I need to know about an art school, the BEST one, or at least ONE of the best. Not to mention an apratment. I remember when I used to live there in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Harlem, the rent was ridiculous, but now its just insane! Anyone know about apartments and art schools, please help out, I'd really appreciate it. An art school for photography, film, fashion, and writing, and an apartment. HELP ME! Thanks.

At one time FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) offered photography classes. Look online for their course catalogue. Columbia and NYU have very good film programs. Do NOT go to the NY Film Academy, they're awful and you won't learn anything.
2
The School of Visual arts is a great school and its in a really cool neighboorhood. I would try Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, the rents are still really decent there. good luck.
3
The best school for all three artistic endeavors is Parsons school of design(this is the same school that hosts Project Runway). Being one of the best if not the best means that it is not cheap and it is not exactly easy to get into. However, if you think rent is insane in New York, wait till you find out about the tuition fees at Parsons.

Columbia and NYU are the best law schools in the city. After that, Fordham. Below Fordham and your jobs prospects just aren't going to be very good. You can also attend Cornell in upstate New York. The school sends most of its graduates to the city.
3
St. John's University Law School in Queens, NY, is the best in NYS and has the highest rate for passing the Bar Exam.

Im looking for art school in New York that doesnt require SAT scores?
I've started to make my profolio so I first looked up Parsons in New York, but I couldn't tell if they wanted a SAT score or not. I want to go to a pretty decent school. I'm thinking of majoring in fine arts or illustration. any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure all schools will look at your SAT scores because they take a look at all of your transcripts. Your best bet is to find schools that accept people based on portfolios and talent over scores. I know that the School of Visual Arts looks primarily at your portfolio to see whether they will accept students or not.

My daughter needs to find a reputable driving school in new york city that is a good deal. Any ideas?
I found that most driving schools in new york city are not very reliable and costly. Does anyone know if she can do it through a n organization or college, that is cheaper than these fly by night auto schools?

What is the penalty for selling weed brownies in school? (New york)?
Hypothetical situation. New york 16 Year old selling weed brownies in school, No previous criminal record. a few days detention in school. What would most likely be the penalty? Minimum? Maximum?

weed huh well i guess suspention
3
Well... In this "hypothetical situation" you would most probably be convicted for sexual assault and treason.
4
It is a felony to sell weed. It is also a felony to possess drugs on a school campus It is also a felony to sell weed on a school campus. Sure you might just get expelled(if that), but it could be a lot worse. Keep it away from school. Weed is decriminalized in NY, so anywhere besides school is a much better bet. You dont want to ruin your education over petty cash.

I've never heard of a medical high school. You don't start studying medicine until after you have a 4-year college degree - that's when you apply to medical school. Maybe you're looking for a magnet math and science school instead.
2
I heard that after graduating "Clara Barton" HS you are a nurse...
3
no such things as medical high schools, no wonder you cant find any. As far as earning a nursing degree after graduating Clara Barton h.s.; nonsense.

Well, look at the source listed. I'll have to say: Out of those schools listed, I only recognized 1: The Emma Willard School. That's a really, really good school, but it's girls-only which some people don't like. Anyways, historically, the oldest(and most well-known) boarding schools have been in the north-east, & HADES (Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter and St. Paul's) which are the 5 elite boarding schools (not that I'm saying there aren't others out there: There ARE!) are all in the North-east, I believe, & besides, you're boarding so that shouldn't be an issue.. The only problem is getting in. Bahaha. Anyways, good luck! By the way, Emma Willard really is a great school. Do some research on it, you can't really go wrong! If you're looking for affordable, boarding schools are in no way affordable unless you get financial aid. Also, boarding schools are not a retreat for students who "hate their families". There are a serious place to learn and play at the same time, so if you're looking to hide from your problems, BS is not the place to go! Also, to the poster who answered before me, Nightingdale Bamford is not a boarding school, it's an elite private day. Yeah.. anyways, if your parents are being abusive call child services instead of going to BS. It's not a haven for children that get sent away by their families, it's for motivated kids who are eager to learn.. Good luck!

There are 16 boarding schools in New York state and many more in the Tri-State Region (NY, NJ, and Connecticut). For a complete list and information on everything about each school go to Boarding School Review: http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/state/statename/NewXYZYork/stateid/NY When looking for boarding schools start out with a general search and then move to the specific. You will find that many schools are either all-boys or all-girls, like Emma Willard. Some will be seminarian schools, military academies, some will concentrate on religion and others will be secular. It's better to start out with a general search than to read about a school and love it, and then find out that it's impossible for you to attend the school because its all-boys/all-girls. Affordability is always an issue when considering boarding schools. Most boarding schools in the U.S. are between $30,000 and $35,000 per year, while some will go upwards of $40,000/year. It's not an issue if you have a history of near-perfect grades and if you have the ability to keep those grades at a near-perfect level while at boarding school. Financial aid at most U.S. boarding schools is offered if your parents' annual income is below a certain level, for example, at Exeter you get a free ride if your parents make less than $75,000/year; obviously, schools will have different policies. On the flip side, if your grades are not that great, or not great at all, you are left with very few, if any, options. Student loans are rarely offered for boarding school and boarding schools that do offer student loans are usually concentrated on profit over quality of education. At risk of sounding impertinent, I would then advise you to contact a wealthy relative or family friend, otherwise, paying for boarding school would be next to impossible. "Affordable" and "boarding school" are words that you will rarely, if ever, find in the same sentence, unfortunately. It's much better to apply for full financial aid at whichever boarding school you wish to go to and make clear to them (if your grades are not near-perfect) that you will work your very hardest while there. I went to boarding school and I look back on it as one of the best experiences of my life. Best of luck.

Who monitors New York School Bus Transportation and laws for Public School Transportation?
My son had detention today, he took the 4 pm bus home. At first he called to say that I had to pick him up because the bus driver did not want to drive him home. When I called the school, the bus driver was made to take him, however, she dropped him off about a 1/2 mile away from the house. We live on a very busy main road with absolutely no shoulder. She had to pass by the house anyway. I saw her myself doing about 60 mph. Then I saw my son walking down the road, jumping out of the way when a car would wizz by. I don't think this is okay and want to research it before I go crazy on the bus company. Thanks.

I'd contact the school first since it seems they control policy on this kind of thing (see first link.) But a better approach might be to contact an organization concerned with pupil safety on the bus (see the second link.) Maybe you can get them involved to help you out. That said, you should talk to the bus driver first. Maybe she had a good reason for dropping your child where she did. It may not be out and out negligence. She can only do so much. School bus driver is truly the world's most unappreciated job. Most are only trying to do the right thing.
